Ethylene is produced in large volumes for use in the manufacture of polymers, such as polyethylene (PE). While ethylene is the most important, other olefins include propylene and butadiene, butene, isobutene (or isobutylene), hexene and octene.
The production process may be controlled by monitoring these chemicals for impurities, such as acetylene or humidity.
