Total Acid Number (TAN).

Oils react with atmospheric oxygen and produce oxidation products that are acidic. TAN is measurement of both the weak organic and the stronger inorganic acids that may be present in the oil. It is an important measurement of the quality of crude oil indicating potential corrosion problems.  It is also a useful measurement in lubrication oils where higher temperatures can speed up oxidation reactions and increase acid levels.

The Micro TAN Titrator was designed in consultaion with the industry and provides improved health and safety and environmental considerations.  By reducing the sample volume there is a saving of up to 75 % of the volume of organic solvent used, dramatically reducing the cost per test.
